Chris serves as a non Executive Director of NHS Property Services Ltd and an independent board member of Network Housing Group (Social Housing provider).
Chris joined the BBC in January 2004 as Head of Corporate Real Estate. Under his leadership the Property Department was restructured and relaunched as BBC Workplace. In November 2012 he transferred to BBC Commercial Projects where he spent worked part time on phase 2 of the Smart Value sale of Television Centre London.
As Head of BBC Workplace he was responsible for the development, financing and implementation of the BBC’s property strategy and for managing the team that provides the right workplace for the most creative organisation in the world.
The BBC’s real estate portfolio comprised about 500 properties and 616,000 square metres of space across the UK. It is now significantly smaller.
The organisation undertook major property projects at MediaCityUK in north west England where the BBC is anchor tenant (30,000 sq m) at the major new media community at Salford Quays, and central London at Broadcasting House (80,000 sq m), which will be the new home for all BBC Journalism, Vision and Audio and Music operations.
Throughout 2005/2006 Chris Kane oversaw the restructuring of the BBC’s £2.5b property partnership with Land Securities Trillium, and the re-procurement of the organisation’s facilities and construction management operations.
Since 2012 his principle area of focus was leading BBC Commercial Projects, a trading division of BBC Commercial Holdings Ltd with the specific purpose of maximising the value of the Television Centre disposal. The aim for this group was to ensure that Television Centre emerges as a high quality mixed used Creative destination complex which is financially successful, provides a new home for BBC Worldwide, a new audience facing base for the Studios business and respects the BBC’s legacy.
Prior to joining the BBC, he was Vice-President of International Corporate Real Estate for the Walt Disney Company where he managed Disney’s international portfolio.
Before moving to Disney, Chris Kane was a Partner in Jones Lang Wootton where he was integral in launching a new service for clients, Corporate Real Estate Services.
